A Guide for Alternative, Gothic and Fetish Models
Alternative versus Mainstream The world of alternative modeling is more forgiving in many ways versus mainstream modeling. Alternative modeling is much more about attitude and style than about youth and draconian ideals of beauty. Unless you achieve supermodel status (and good luck on that), a mainstream model has an extremely limited time frame to work. Once you hit your mid-twenties it’s time to start looking for another career. Conversely, an alternative model can continue to work into their 30’s, 40’s and maybe even 50’s. There is a much wider range of looks with alternative models too. Models that don’t possess “classic beauty” can do exceptionally well as an alternative model. In fact, your flaws can be an asset if you own them and use them to separate yourself from the crowd. Alternative models can be any height or weight and diversity is not only allowed, but encouraged. While high fashion might accept some small tattoos and piercings that can be removed or covered up, you can comfortably flaunt your body modifications in alternative modeling. All of this just points out why I enjoy working in the realm of gothic and fetish modeling. Basically, alternative modeling allows women to be much more expressive and opens up the doors for women who would never make the cut in mainstream modeling. Alternative models are just simply far more interesting in general, and that’s what makes them such a fascinating subject to capture in photos. Dream hard, December 7, 2007
