If you haven’t been paying attention, you may have missed a growing movement. It’s happening across the internet. It’s certainly happening in America, but it’s occurring elsewhere.

It’s what I call The New Puritan Movement and if you’re an adult it’s already affected you, even if you don’t know it.

Last year Backpage removed their adult content section due to pressure from the United States Goverment. Then earlier this year Backpage was shut down entirely. That was followed by an unconstitutional law that was passed almost unanimously by the US Congress, and signed into law by President Trump, called SESTA/FOSTA. Yesterday the Huffington Post shared a story that Senator Elisabeth Warren (D) and Marco Rubio (R) are working on legislation to impose restrictions on sex workers banking accounts.

Additionally, there’s a recent story that AirBNB blackballed Sara Jay because she was a porn star. And I could share literally thousands of stories from professional dominatrices, fetish models, sex workers, and more who have had their online banking accounts shuttered for what they determine is related to sexual activities. Microsoft is going to read your files on Office and monitor your Skype conversations to censor your content.

Sex Trafficking?

Before I go on, I want to be very clear here… sex trafficking, which is selling young or enslaved people for the purposes of sex, and which no one supports, is being conflated with adult independent entrepreneurial sex workers, and much more including porn actors, models, professional dominatrices, and in some cases even writers or artists who create erotic work.

This is not just happening in the United States either. I keep hearing from my friends in the UK about new laws that are targeting porn.

I’m not covering everything that’s going on either. I’ve witnessed legislation and acts by companies that are simply stunning in the last few years. SESTA/FOSTA and this upcoming bill to further restrict banking is just another level entirely.

If you don’t think this sort of thing affects you then you’re wrong. I had a friend contact me recently and ask why Craigslist closed the personals section. It’s related. In fact, if SESTA/FOSTA hangs around then it will affect anything that could even remotely be connected to dating, social media, email, file-sharing, and privacy… all in the name of “protecting” you and victims of sex trafficking.

Everyone who enjoys porn (and it’s a $15 billion industry… so don’t pretend that it’s not YOU) is affected by this legislation.

But worse, this movement hurts the people who it claims to help. Sex workers are losing their ability to conduct their business and will have to engage in activities that will put them in harm’s way. And the actual sex trafficking victims will be forced even further underground and be nearly impossible to find.

But make no mistake, this is not about sex trafficking… it’s about Puritanism. It’s about the government telling you what to do in your own bedroom.

It’s unconstitutional. It’s a civil rights violation. It’s outrageous. And it’s a tragedy.

What can you do?

Unfortunately, there are no easy answers.

To resolve this is first going to take an information outreach. That’s what this article is for.

Next, the ACLU, or some other lawyers need to step up and help fight this sort of thing, and not just SESTA/FOSTA. Companies are going out of their way to discriminate and they need to be shamed for that activity.

Finally, support sex workers, adult entertainers, producers, erotic artists and writers with your money. They are working hard to entertain and excite you, it’s time to reach out to them. They need your support like never before.
