TULSA, OKLAHOMA, May 24, 2010 – Fantasy photographer Dirk Hooper will be among seven other Oklahoma artists in the “Steampunk” art exhibition at the Art-N-Style Gallery beginning, Saturday June 5th.  The show will have a cross-section of illustrators and photographers who will present their own interpretation of the steampunk genre.  The exhibition is curated by artist Mike Kennedy and will be the first time many of these creators have displayed work in this unique genre.

Steampunk is sub-genre of fantasy and science fiction, typically set within the 19th century when steam power was prominent and characterized by Victorian-style fashion mixed with fictional inventions like those of writer Jules Verne.  Dirk Hooper said, “The look and attitude of steampunk are very much in line with my fantasy and fetish photography.  When Mike Kennedy contacted me about this show I got very excited by the prospects of working with the genre.”  While new to the world of steampunk, Hooper sees this exhibition as a beginning of a long-term project.  “Creating the photos for the ‘Steampunk’ show has been a blast and ideas are now coming fast and furious.  I’m officially adding this genre to my body of work,” Hooper said.

Dirk Hooper will have four sepia-toned metallic prints on display at the “Steampunk” art exhibition.  Models for the photos include Oklahoma-based professional dominatrix Princess Zoe, Tulsa model Prince, Oklahoma City model Jade and members of steampunk sideshow performance group “Carnival Epsilon,” Marcus, Ivy and Rose.  Photographer Dirk Hooper, Princess Zoe and many of the other models for the photos will be in attendance for the opening night event.

The “Steampunk” art exhibition will feature Oklahoma-based artists:

  • Shawn Wilson, a 20 year veteran graphic designer and comic artist
  • Phil Hollecker, a science fiction and fantasy illustrator trained on the west coast
  • Wykkd Lenz (Cyn Burton), journalistic photographer recently featured on the BBC’s “The Week That Was”
  • Alain Viesca, fantasy artist specializing in digital art and illustration
  • Mike Kennedy, published creator of over 20 comics and working artist for over 30 years
  • Lucy Adams, comic artist with a passion for color work
  • and Zack Raw, a Tulsa artist who will display art for the first time in the “Steampunk” art exhibition.

Opening night for the “Steampunk” art exhibition will be June 5th at 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  The show will be located at the Art-N-Style Gallery, 1334 East 41st Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Refreshments will be provided and there will be live music by “The Annie Perkins Band”.   The exhibition will run through June 30th.  For additional information about the show, please contact Mike Kennedy at 918-935-5387.

Von Gutenberg Magazine Issue TwoSAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, May 10, 2010 – The work and biography of fetish photographer Dirk Hooper is featured in issue two of the fantasy fashion magazine “Von Gutenberg”.  The three-page spread has several of Hooper’s photos and an interview with a brief retrospective of recent events.  “Von Gutenberg” is a new American fetish fashion and lifestyle magazine, published in San Francisco, California.   The magazine focuses on models, alternative couture, photography, and events, in a style reminiscent of the European fetish magazines “Marquis,” “O” and “Skin Two”.

“During my formative years as an artist, it was just this sort of magazine that was a guide and inspiration for the work I do today,” Hooper said.  The opportunity to present his work to “Von Gutenberg’s” audience is very important to Hooper, “While I’m always looking for ways to present my work to a wider audience, this article is a bull’s-eye for my core supporters in the genre I do best, and it’s an honor to be among such great work.”

Three of Hooper’s frequent models are showcased in full page photos.  Toxic Goddess Dame Lebeau is on the splash page in the piece titled “Inked”, which has also been seen in four art shows over the past year.  Oklahoma Professional Dominatrix Princess Zoe is in the stylish photo titled “Matrix”.  The atmospheric photo “Xanthia” features Toxic Goddess Kali with makeup by Danger Darling.

Issue Two of “Von Gutenberg” magazine has photos by Ken Marcus, Violet Photography and Erik Von Gutenberg himself.  Models in this issue include Ashley Fires, January, Princess Donna, Marissa and Foxy Squire.  The Goth culture, fetish in Greece, the United States Burlesque scene and a fetish guide of Europe is all presented in the second issue.  “Von Gutenberg” magazine is available around the world at your local book stores and newsstands, or is for sale directly at http://www.VonGutenbergCouture.com.

Dirk Hooper will have work among nearly 40 other erotic artists at the IAO’s Biting the Apple exhibit this weekend.  He will also be making an appearance along with several of the Toxic Goddesses and Toxic Goddess photographer Robert Henry.  Information on the Biting the Apple exhibition is below.

Individual Artists of Oklahoma will present their 19th annual erotic art show and fetish ball entitled “Cirque Fantastique” on Friday, March 26, and Saturday, March 27, from 7pm to midnight, at IAO Gallery, 706 W. Sheridan in the Film Exchange District of Oklahoma City.

Over the course of the two nights, this year’s Biting the Apple, “Cirque Fantastique,” will quite literally be a circus of fantasies that aims to explore how our fantasies are reflected in popular culture through movies, literature, and even modern myth. By providing an approachable and safe atmosphere, IAO hopes guests will come together in celebration of our fantasies to gain insights into eroticism through a wide array of individual artwork.

Friday, March 26 is the event’s Opening Party. Oklahoma artists will exhibit their erotic art in a combined invited artist and juried art show. The evening will also include erotic poetry readings, a fashion show, film and video screenings and performance art; as well as juror’s and people’s choice awards given for art submissions and IAO’s first ever YouTube video competition.

Saturday, March 27 will be a celebration like no other with the event’s popular Fetish Ball. Attendees are invited to dress as personal taste, fashion, and personal fantasy dictate. Look for artist-made costumes and décor to fit the “Cirque Fantastique” theme.

Join our circus of fantasies with street performers, an erotic dance-off and live peep shows. Both nights will include a cash bar and complimentary food donated by a few of Oklahoma City’s most excellent restaurants.

Tickets are $15 for each night or $25 for both nights.
