Dirk Hooper Newsletter

It’s been a couple of months since the last newsletter and there are some interesting things coming up soon.

New Podcast Project and Request for Your Help

I’m working hard to bring you a new podcast that focuses on the world of fetish photography, alternative modeling and lifestyle BDSM topics.  My co-host for the podcast will be Oklahoma’s own professional dominatrix Princess Zoe (www.thePrincessZoe.com).  I will have more information on the podcast soon, but for right now I need your help!

Part of the podcast will have a question and answer segment.  I’m looking for questions about photography, modeling and BDSM that either I or Princess Zoe can answer.  If you have a short question, please send your name and question to:

Steampunk Models Needed

Are you familiar with the term Steampunk?  One of my old buddies, Mike Kennedy, has invited me to participate in a Steampunk art show in Tulsa on Saturday, June 5th.  In preparation for that show I began to look for people who were into the Steampunk culture/fashion.  While I only need a few pieces for the art show, I’m excited by the prospect of an ongoing Steampunk project that may culminate in a solo show, or a section on my website, or maybe even a book.

If you are into Steampunk or know someone who is, this is a chance to get your photo taken by a professional fantasy photographer.  I’m looking for both men and women.  Please check out my blog for more information.  I’ll be placing a section on my model search page for Steampunk soon.

Bondage/Submissive Models Needed

I’m going to be working with Shibari Master David M on an ongoing project that combines his rope bondage artistry with my photography.  I am looking specifically for female bondage models who are willing to pose fully nude, are in good shape and are either in Oklahoma or near Kansas City, or are willing to travel to me at their own expense.  If you’re interested, please fill out a model application on my site and make sure I know you are specifically interested in bondage.

Art Shows

My latest art show was this year’s Biting the Apple Exhibition at the IAO Gallery.  The show just wrapped up, but it was a great success.  My piece was from an idea that I’ve had floating around for a while but was unable to bring it all together.  Airbrush artist Scott Van Eck, along with Toxic Goddess models, Dame Lebeau, Selkie and Loki, finally made my circus-themed fetish piece a reality.  Thanks to that team I got the shot and it came out better than I ever imagined.  I’ll be posting the finished piece on my site very soon.

I have another show coming up in Allentown Pennsylvania in June, plus the Steampunk show in Tulsa on June 5th, an appearance at Soonercon in OKC on that same weekend and finally a show in Hong Kong.  Yes… Hong Kong!  Please visit my blog for more information on all upcoming shows.

Travel

I’m definitely making a trip to Austin Texas with Princess Zoe soon.  I may be heading to Tulsa or Kansas City to work with Shibari Master David M. as well.  If you live in one of those cities and want to work with me then please email me, or fill out a model application.

Finally

As always, I enjoy hearing from you all, so please keep in touch.

Dream hard,

-       Dirk Hooper

Fantasy and fetish photographer Dirk Hooper is looking for male and female models for a Steampunk project that will be developed over the next three months.  The project will lead to a major exhibition in Tulsa this coming June, but may also lead to other exhibitions or even a book.

The description of Steampunk is below, but if you’re not familiar with the term, you may not be right for this project.  Hooper is looking for male and female models who have a Steampunk wardrobe and props already available for a photoshoot.  In addition, Hooper will be searching for a certain look, personal style and spirit similar to what he always looks for in prospective models.  Photoshoots will be on-location around Oklahoma City.

Interested models should be ready to sign a standard model release and be available for shooting relatively quickly.  Please send a few photos along with your name, email and a phone number, so he can get an idea of your look.  Professional photos or modeling experience is not necessary.  Models who are chosen will receive a photoshoot and several worked photos that are worth nearly $500 in value, plus if a photo of your set ends up in the art show, you will get an 8×10 of the piece as well.

Please send photos, name, email and phone to: dirk@dirkhooper.com

More information on photographer Dirk Hooper can be found at www.dirkhooper.com.

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and speculative fiction, frequently featuring elements of fantasy that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used — usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era England — but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of “the path not taken” of such technology as dirigibles, analog computers, or digital mechanical computers (such as Charles Babbage’s Analytical engine); these frequently are presented in an idealized light, or with a presumption of functionality.

Toxic Goddess Celebrates Three Creators Who Have Work in Dirty Show 11

DETROIT, MICHIGAN, February 9, 2010 – Toxic Goddess model Sandra Pagan, and Toxic Goddess photographers Robert Henry and Dirk Hooper, all three have work that has been accepted into the internationally renowned erotic art exhibition Dirty Show 11, starting this weekend. This is the first time that Toxic Goddess has had such a strong presence in a major art show.

Toxic Goddess founder and photographer Dirk Hooper said, “When we created Toxic Goddess Robert and I wanted more than a place to feature our own photography, we wanted to start a movement that was a catalyst for art, music and the community. All three of us getting accepted in the Dirty Show is a milestone in that effort.” Hooper’s piece “Zing” is a halftone print on canvas that features Toxic Goddess model Selkie.

Robert Henry, Toxic Goddess founder and photographer, entered a piece titled “End of Summer” which is a photo of Toxic Goddess Eclipse. “Within the context of my overall work, Toxic Goddess is the playground where I work out my ideas. It’s the place where I experiment and create work that I love. This is a great example of the work that comes out from a labor of love,” Henry said.

The Dirty Show features over a hundred erotic artists from around the world and has become the biggest erotic art show in America. “I am very excited about having my piece in the Dirty Show. This is my first real show and I am just going along with the new experience,” said model and artist Sandra Pagan. Her art piece is a series of self portraits assembled in a collage.

All three artists agree that Toxic Goddess has become a group that inspires and encourages the members to excel. Henry said, “Because it is such a small group, it takes on a familial atmosphere most of the time. We share each other’s triumphs and tragedies and that brings about a faith that helps lead to so many rewarding experiences.” Pagan summarizes, “Toxic Goddess does a great job in encouraging artists to grow. I consider us to be a small family and as a family we like to see each one of us grow creatively.”

The artwork by Pagan, Henry and Hooper will be part of the Dirty Show 11 in Detroit, Michigan starting on February 12 and running through February 20. Tickets for the Dirty Show and event information is available now through DirtyShow.org.

Toxic Goddess is part modeling troupe, part art movement and part cultural phenomenon. Founders Robert Henry and Dirk Hooper conceived of Toxic Goddess as a way to present their work to the public in the best way possible and are joined by makeup artist Danger Darling and effects artist Scott Van Eck. The guiding principle of Toxic Goddess is to do alternative modeling in a way that not only represents and showcases women in a positive and empowering manner, but to back that up by making the actual models part of the creative process and to share in the venture’s success. Toxic Goddess wants to reach out to, unify and promote, various underground communities including music, fashion, art and alternative social groups, particularly if they are run by or positive toward women. OKLAHOMA CITY, November 3, 2009 – World-renowned fetish photographer Dirk Hooper had two pieces chosen for Art Scene Today’s “Erogenous Zones” international juried competition. The exhibition will be available for view on Art Scene Today’s website for the month of November and showcases erotic art from New York, Virginia, California, Colorado and Oklahoma, to places as far away as Hawaii and Germany.

The piece was culled from a series of fetish photos taken over a day-long session. “I really enjoyed working with Mistress Kitty and it’s great to just have one of our photos accepted into the show, but to have the piece win an award too is very exciting,” Hooper said.

Hooper’s second photo accepted into the show is “Inked” with Toxic Goddess Dame Lebeau. “Inked” has the distinction of being accepted into three different juried shows. The piece was also a part of the Individual Artist’s of Oklahoma “Biting the Apple” exhibition earlier this year and last month’s “Dirty Show 10.5” in Detroit Michigan. “I’m proud to share this accomplishment with Dame Lebeau. It’s so much fun to work with her that she makes my job very easy,” said Hooper.

“Erogenous Zones” will be available to view during the month of November at the Art Scene Today website located at artscenetoday.com. Dirk Hooper will be the featured artist for one week starting November 23rd which includes a large representation of the “Pink Kitty” photo, an artist’s statement, bio and a short interview available on the site.
